Clear Skin, Clear Mind, Can't Lose (AKA, 3 Ways to Get All Kinds of Clarity)
When it comes to the skin, the mind, and diamonds, we’re all looking for the same thing: a little bit of clarity.*
In all seriousness, clarity is one of the words guiding me through this year. I want to feel clear in every sense of the word–like I’m open, stuck energy is moving, and all the things are flowing. (And, duh, like my skin is unblemished and glowing!) Part of making that happen involves these three (EASY!) additions to my morning routine to help me cultivate clarity on the skin, body, and soul levels.
Drink Hot Lemon Water
Drinking hot lemon water is an ancient Ayurvedic practice for detoxing and cleansing. Drinking it in the morning helps rehydrate the body and flush out the digestive system–and when your digestive system is flowing properly, it leads to clearer skin. Lemon water also delivers a dose of Vitamin C, which is great for your immune system but also necessary for producing collagen (the stuff that’s responsible for plump, smooth skin). Some studies show that it even boosts metabolism and fights bloat–which, even if there’s no definitive proof to back that up, I’m here for.
Set An Intention + Plan Your Day
About a year ago, I started using Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map Daily Planner every morning (which you can read more about here). It’s different from other journals and planners–which I’ve notoriously spent my life buying, using like twice, and discarding–because it prioritizes your spiritual and self-care goals alongside your regular to-do list, and makes you focus in on how you want to feel every day.
Every day it gives you a new "soul prompt" to think about, a place to schedule in appointments and meetings, a life to-do list, a soul to-do list, a section for writing out what you’re grateful for (a game-changer!), and more (which sounds like a lot, but only takes about five minutes to fill out). Afterwards, you’re clear on what you need to do in your life, what you need to do for your soul, and how you want to feel in every moment.
Take Your Vitamins!
Generally, I try to “eat my vitamins” in fruits and veggies, and keep my capsule vitamins to a minimum. But I still take about 10 capsules every morning to give my body the things I don’t get through my diet, like Vitamin D (because drinking milk is disgusting, am I right?!), activated charcoal (super cleansing), ashwaganda (anti-inflammatory and stress-reducing), biotin (for hair, skin, and nails), and a few more.
